Process Highlights: Using design leadership to drive scale

Creating a system and a team from scratch

Turbotax was lacking centralized design infrastructure, which had led to inconsistent product quality and significant development friction. Recognizing that fragmented workflows were stalling speed-to-market, I pitched the formation of the group’s first end-to-end Design Systems team.

Impact: Secured executive buy-in for a dedicated systems investment and bridged the gap between design and engineering by partnering with engineering to move the system beyond pixels and into code.

Erasing silos across functions

To drive adoption, I partnered with our architects to establish a quarterly cross-functional forum that democratized the contribution process and aligned diverse stakeholders on shared standards.

Impact: We built enough influence to add the system into the engineering paved road—the core set of tools engineering tools across the organization—and doubled team velocity while eliminating thousands of defects.
